ERI SEE Participated in the MiCRET Microcredentials Thermometer Webinar Focusing on Montenegro, North Macedonia and Serbia, 24 September 2026
On 24 September 2026, ERI SEE participated in the fourth edition of the MiCRET Microcredentials Thermometer Webinar, focused on the current state of play of microcredentials in Montenegro, North Macedonia and Serbia.
The webinar, organised by the World Alliance for Microcredentials Foundation (WAM) within the MiCRET initiative, brought together national stakeholders, policymakers, experts and project partners to exchange perspectives on policy developments, implementation, recognition and the future role of microcredentials.
The event was facilitated by Oonagh McGirr, Director of the World Alliance for Microcredentials Foundation, while Stefano Tirati, Founder and Executive Board Coordinator of the World Alliance for Microcredentials Foundation, opened the discussion and introduced the objectives and approach of the Microcredentials Thermometer.
At the centre of the webinar was the MiCRET Microcredentials Thermometer, an AI-supported country dashboard developed on the basis of publicly available sources to map developments related to microcredentials, including policy developments, ecosystem maturity, standards, implementation and adoption trends.
Rather than providing a definitive assessment of individual countries, the Thermometer serves as a starting point for discussion and validation with national stakeholders. The webinar therefore provided an opportunity to review the initial findings together with national experts, validate available evidence, identify information gaps and obtain a more accurate picture of the development of national microcredential ecosystems.
National perspectives were provided by Ivana Čvorović Plavšić, Deputy Director of the Qualifications Agency of the Republic of Serbia, Bojana Politova, Head of the Department for Strategic and Social Partnership, representing the Centre for Vocational Education and Training of North Macedonia, and Goran Drobnjak, Head of Directorate for Lifelong learning, representing the Ministry of Education, Science and Innovation of Montenegro. The speakers presented the actual situation and ongoing developments in their respective countries, complementing and validating the information presented through the Microcredentials Thermometer.
The country presentations were followed by a moderated panel discussion, “Microcredentials in Practice: Policy, Recognition, Adoption and Future Challenges”, which provided space to reflect on similarities and differences across the three countries, identify gaps and emerging priorities and discuss challenges and opportunities related to the further development and uptake of microcredentials.
Sandra Brkanović, Director of ERI SEE, participated in the webinar and contributed to the discussion from a regional perspective. The exchange highlighted the relevance of continued regional cooperation and knowledge sharing as countries further develop their approaches to microcredentials and explore their potential contribution to lifelong learning, employability, skills recognition and innovation in education and training.
The webinar forms part of the MiCRET Microcredentials Thermometer series, which facilitates dialogue between national stakeholders and enables comparison and validation of developments across different national contexts.
