ERI SEE supporting the higher education developments

The ERI SEE continued to support the developments of the higher education in Western Balkans through the work of the RCCERI SEE Joint Working Group for the Recognition of Higher Education Qualifications and Quality Assurance, primarily facilitating the degree recognition processes and connecting the recognition and the quality assurance bodies in the Westen Balkans. The year 2023 marked the signing the Regional Agreement on the Recognition of Higher Education Qualifications initiated within the scope of the Berlin Process.

Following the official launch in 2020, the Joint Information System (JIS) continued to facilitate the recognition of academic qualifications in the Western Balkan region. Currently it contains information on accreditation of over 6000 HEIs and study programmes in six Western Balkans economies Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo*, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Serbia. The next data updated as well as the second round on data management training is planned for the beginning of 2024.

In July 2023 the ERI SEE organised the Workshop on the integration of ESGs into the work of QA agencies in higher education from the WB6 in the cooperation with the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Croatia (MSE), and Agency for Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Croatia (AZVO), and supported by the Regional Cooperation Council (RCC). The main goals of the workshop were to offer a platform for peer learning and the exchange of experiences among the colleagues from WB6 QA Agencies and with colleagues from Croatia on the topic of the implementation of the ESG and to plan further activities of the regional network.

In September 2023 Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of North Macedonia, in cooperation with the ERI SEE organised the Western Balkans Ministerial Conference: Quality and Quality Assurance in Higher Education – trends and developments in the EU and Western Balkans. The Ministerial conference gathered the representatives of regional education ministries, quality assurance agencies, higher education institutions, the representatives of ENQA and EQAR and resulted in Western Balkans Policy Recommendations for Quality in Higher Education.
