From Vision to Impact: Regional Cooperation for Quality Education and Training – EQET SEE Closing Conference, to be held on 13th and 14th March 2025, in Belgrade marks an ending of three-and-a-half years of intense and productive work at regional and national levels within the Enhancements in the Quality of Education and Training in South Eastern Europe (EQET SEE) project.
The time has come for us to proudly present the work and results jointly achieved by the ERI SEE Secretariat (as the Lead Partner), and agencies for VET, Qualifications, Quality Assurance and Chambers of Commerce from the region (as Implementing partners), the time has come for us to proudly present the work and results jointly achieved within the project.
The EQET SEE project, funded by the Austrian Development Agency and co-funded by ERI SEE and national partners, has been directed at modernising vocational education and training (VET) systems in the region (through collaboration between education and business sectors in the development of regionally-based occupation and qualification standards, teaching and learning material, work-based learning guidelines and trainings) and enhancing quality assurance systems (through elaborating regional standards of external evaluators, defining good practices and their implementation, trainings for external evaluators and internal quality guidelines for external evaluation bodies).
The main goal of the conference i to present the pathway from the joint vision that initiated the project, through the results the EQET SEE project has produced at both regional and national levels, to the consequent impact of the project on national systems. In addition, we want to encourage reflections about the importance of regional cooperation; and share international and local expertise in the area of VET and QA of pre-tertiary education. Last, but not least, during the conference space will be given to future cooperation planning and exchange of information about trends and developments relevant for the region in education and training, while paying due attention to the most pressing topics of social and environmental sustainability and gender equity.
Day one, 13 March 2025 will focus on the presentation of the EQET SEE project and results, with insights and testimonials from project partners, experts and beneficiaries on the impact of the Project including discussions on the preuniversity education from the perspectives of social and environmental sustainability and gender equity.
Day two, 14 March 2025 will offer a forward vision of emerging trends, challenges and potential solutions for future actions in the area of education and training, presented by renowned international and local experts. A platform for planning future regional actions with national and international partners will be offered as a closing session.
Speakers
Prof. dr. Dragan Stanojević, Faculty of Philosophy, University of Belgrade, Serbia
Dragan Stanojević is an Assistant Professor of Sociology at the Faculty of Philosophy, University of Belgrade. In 2015, he defended his PhD thesis on “The Shaping of New Fatherhood Through the Practices of Fathers in Serbia” at the Faculty of Philosophy, University of Belgrade. With over 15 years of experience, he has conducted extensive social research in Serbia, Southeast Europe, and Europe. His research uses quantitative and qualitative methods to focus on youth, family, social inequalities, and life course patterns. He is particularly interested in researching youth participation. During the IX and X rounds, he was the National Coordinator for the European Social Survey in Serbia. He was involved as a senior researcher with the Pool of European Youth Researchers (PEYR) and the European Platform for Learning Mobility (EPLM). He has been active in the European Sociological Organization RN30 Youth and Generation since 2017.
Dr. Ermelinda Mahmutaj, Faculty of Natural Sciences, University of Tirana and EDEN Center, Albania
Dr. Rosa Micaelo, General Inspectorate for Education and Science, Portugal
Dr. Gordana Čaprić, external expert
Gordana Čaprić is an independent researcher and expert in school evaluation and development. She holds a PhD in psychology at the University of Belgrade. With over 25 years of experience in the education sector, she has actively contributed to shaping national and international policies and managing development projects related to school evaluation and support. For the past 20 years, she served as the deputy director of the Institute for Education Quality and Evaluation (IEQE). Also, she was actively engaged in the creation of EU education policies, participating in three working groups under the EU Open Method of Coordination (European Commission) such as the ET 2020 WG on Schools – Pathways to School Success and the ET 2020 WG Schools (Quality Assurance expertise) for the last 10 years and serving 15 years as a member of the Executive Committee of the Standing International Conference of Educational Inspectorates (SICI). Currently, she is a national and international expert evaluating various training programs aimed at building educators’ capacity for migrant student inclusion. She is also involved in research and development projects focused on educators’ communities of practice and facilitating change and school development supported by UNICEF.
Prof. dr. Melanie Ehren, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, Netherlands
Melanie Ehren is a professor in education governance at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, the Netherlands. She combines a strong disciplinary background in educational and school effectiveness with a comparative approach to understanding outcomes of education systems. Her international work on accountability, inspection, evaluation and improvement has included various countries in the EU, Africa, Asia and the U.S, including visiting scholarships at Harvard University and Columbia University and consultancies for the OECD, UNICEF, and the EU.
Dr. Maria do Carmo Gomes, international expert
Maria do Carmo GOMES is a Senior Expert on Skills Development and Employment and Chief Lead Researcher at ISCTE – University Institute of Lisbon. Currently, she is an international consultant in the topics of lifelong learning systems development, Vocational Education and Training (VET) policies, namely on policy analysis and system performance monitoring, validation of non-formal and informal learning, and qualification systems and frameworks. She holds a PhD in Sociology, by ISCTE – University Institute of Lisbon, 2012, and a Master in Social Sciences by the Social Sciences Institute (ICS-UL) of the University of Lisbon (2002) and has graduated in Sociology from ISCTE, 1997.
Prof. dr. Ana Popović, The Academy of Applied Studies Polytechnic, Serbia
Ana Popovic serves as a professor of applied studies at the Academy of Applied Studies Polytechnics in Belgrade, Serbia. She earned her PhD in Environmental Engineering from the University of Belgrade and a Master Class Diploma in Environmental and Social Sustainability Management from the Frankfurt School of Finance and Management. With more than 20 years of international experience, her expertise encompasses various dimensions of sustainability and the implementation of innovative, sustainable practices in both educational and business settings. Her professional journey includes work across Central and Southeastern Europe, the Middle East and North Africa, along with participation in Erasmus+ programs and projects of UNDP, SIDA, ESG360, and EU funds.
