Supporting Just Green Transition and Gender-Inclusive Vocational Education and Training
The Regional Challenge Fund – RCF organised a series of webinars that gathered enterprises, vocational training institutions, donors, and partners with the main goal to explore several critical topics on green transition, sustainable practices, successful stories, and to share ideas and strategies for enhancing gender equality within VET.
Integrating Sustainability Considerations and Standards for a Just Green Transition webinar was organised online on 09 September 2024. The webinar focused on the position that greening Vocational Education and Training (VET) programmes can significantly enhance worker employability and enterprise productivity. The green transition creates new industries and jobs, and VET ensures that the workforce is adequately prepared to fill these positions. While common initiatives include energy-efficient building projects and the use of energy-saving equipment, vocational education institutes and enterprises can tailor specific actions to support their unique greening objectives.
The possibilities and effects of greening VET were discussed by:
- Prabha Dhavala, Sustainability Management Expert, IPC Internationale Projekt Consult GmbH – download presentation
- Tina Šarić, Education Reform Initiative of South Eastern Europe – ERI SEE – download presentation
- Ermelinda Mahmutaj, Expert in Sustainable Development, and author of ERI SEE’s publication: Education for Sustainable Development – How to Improve Environmental Performance in Schools – download presentation
Additional information on the webinar is available on the RCF website.
The second webinar, Creating Gender-Inclusive Vocational Education and Training and Economies for All was organised on 15 November 2024. Promoting gender inclusivity in vocational education enriches the workforce and fosters innovation. Encouraging women and girls to explore a diverse array of vocational paths—such as technology, engineering, and skilled trades—can lead to more creative problem-solving and a robust labour market. When everyone, regardless of gender, is encouraged to equal educational opportunities, we create a resilient community and a stronger economy that benefits all. Towards supporting this idea, the webinar looked into addressing the following topics:
- Analysis of education, training, and employment data for women in the Western Balkans.
- Exploration of demand and supply-side obstacles to achieving gender parity in vocational education and training (VET) and various occupations.
- Open discussion on strategies and solutions for promoting gender inclusivity in VET and employment.
These topics were addressed by:
- Sarah Elson-Rogers, Senior International Expert on TVET and Team Leader for the EU’s Education Outreach in the USA & Canada – download presentation
- Ivana Živadinović, Regional Project Coordinator, ERI SEE – download presentation
- Dragan Stanojević, Assistant Professor of Sociology at the Faculty of Philosophy, University of Belgrade and author of ERI SEE’s publication: Understanding Social Inequalities in Education Process – download presentation
